• This course teaches basics of TCP/IP networking.

    Course Outline:

    • Network topologies, Ethernet network
    • Collisions and how they are worked around
    • Seven ISO layers and encapsulation
    • Generic network device types
    • Broadcast domains
    • TCP/IP network model
    • IP network addresses and masks
    • Subnetworking and static IP routing
It is recommended to know basics of binary arithmetics before taking this course (bitwise operators "AND" and "OR" will be used in some explanations). This course does not provide any information about configuring IP settings in any particular Operating System, but rather focuses on theoretical base for such configuration.

    Course is free of charge.

You are encouraged to do this course before attending MikroTik RouterOS training. We assume that you are familiar with basics of TCP/IP when you come for the RouterOS training class.

  • This course teaches basics of MikroTik RouterOS. The course is free; you can take it after you log on to the training site with your username and password. Unlike the Reference Manual, where the configuration examples show the command line interface, this online course uses the Winbox GUI.

There is one lesson about installing and licensing the RouterOS, as well as managing the software packages. Three different ways of installation are discussed:
    1. Netinstall over the network
    2. CDinstall from a bootable CD
    3. Floppy install using set of bootable floppy discs.

Another lesson is about basic configuration of MikroTik router and discusses following topics:

    1. Connecting to the router locally and remotely
    2. Using IP level and MAC level connections
    3. Initial setup of IP addresses, routes, masquerading
    4. Some hints for security settings.

    Good luck with the course!

  • This course will teach you how to apply various techniques available in MikroTik RouterOS to transparently bridge remote networks over public network infrastructure in general and particularly over wireless links.

The course is free; you can take it after you log on to the training site with your username and password. Unlike the Reference Manual, where the configuration examples show the command line interface, this online course uses the Winbox GUI.

    Main topics discussed are:
    • Bridge interface, when can it be used, bridging Ethernet interfaces
    • Creating a wireless Access Point
    • Bridging over wireless links using WDS
    • Using the EoIP interface to bridge remote LANs
    • Using encrypted tunnels for creating secure VPNs
Configuration examples are given using Winbox GUI and V2.9 of RouterOS.

For best perception of the course material, it is suggested that you do hands-on configuration of your own routers while taking the lesson. We are using two MikroTik routers for the configuration examples. The routers have Ethernet interface and Atheros wireless interface. Level 4 or higher software license is required for using the wireless interfaces.
